‘Fantastic musicianship, intriguing lyrics’ FATEA Magazine

RUBY MUSE (alternative folk, blues and poetry) is songwriter-performers Jools and Mal Heyes. Based in Cambridge UK, they specialise in innovative, contemporary electro-acoustic music and poetry. Their hallmark character is contemplative, warm, quirky and strong – with songs drifting seamlessly between lo-fi fragile and leaf-like to uberdriven powerhouse and back again.

‘Something different and special!’ The Poetry Lounge

Songwriter Jools’ voice is expressive, characterful, warm and bluesy. She writes and arranges mainly from guitar and also plays keyboards, harmonica and mandolin. Guitarist Mal co-writes, adding sculpted ambient sounds, occasional bass and vocal harmonies. Formed in 2006 as an original song-writing, recording and performance outfit, the original line-up included the violin and backing vocals of Hannah Gimeno Palmer, with occasional guest drummers and bassists at live shows.  RUBY MUSE currently operates as a duo.  Jools is also a contemplative poet and artist/art historian and these influences feed strongly into her songs.  Malc runs the studio, arranging and producing recordings – he also builds many of his own guitars.
